Attu - Telephone Poles (2/5)

There are no trees on Attu. I saw a couple of dwarf spruce, funny squished things that hug the ground, but aside from these the tallest living things are the grasses and cow parsnip. Which is why I was so amazed to see that the only man made structures left standing in any significant number were telephone poles; hundreds of them, reminiscent of a dead forest either burned or flooded. While buildings and roads have succumbed to the harsh weather and 175 mile per hour plus winds, it is the telephone poles that have withstood the test of time.

Site of the original LORAN A Station, the building is on the right.
