Chicken is an odd little community. Sixty-five miles up the Taylor Highway you come upon what may be the most far flung tourist trap in the world. It is astonishing that anyone could get enough business to stay open out there, and yet three gift shop-cafe-bar combinations compete for a piece of the pie. The oldest and by far the most interesting store is commonly referred to as "Downtown Chicken", an appropriate name as it consists of a gift shop, liquor store, bar, cafe, and campground.
